Take a short summer drive to Newport for ocean breezes, harbor views, and classic New England charm. Walk part of the Cliff Walk for dramatic coastal scenery, spend time along Bowen’s Wharf browsing shops and watching boats in the marina, or enjoy waterfront dining at spots like The Mooring, The Lobster Bar, and The Landing.
The 10-mile drive is a stunning coastline drive that we definitely recommend on a sunny day!
In the summer, Newport is at its best, with sailboats on the water, outdoor patios full of energy, and long evenings perfect for sunset views by the harbor.
Providence, RI (25-30 minutes from RWU)
Head into Providence for a vibrant summer city experience. Downtown and Federal Hill are especially lively this time of year, with outdoor dining, patios, and street life in full swing. Walk along the riverfront, explore the RISD Museum, and grab a coffee or gelato while taking in the city’s creative energy.
Summer in Providence brings festivals, outdoor events, and a walkable downtown that makes it easy to spend the whole day exploring.
One of the most unique experiences Providence has to offer is
WaterFire. On Saturday evenings starting at the end of May, Downtown Providence is illuminated by art, music, and over 80 bonfires on the rivers that pass through the center of the city. It's a can't-miss experience on your Providence adventure.
