    Guide to RWU Placement Assessments

Welcome to Roger from the team in the Center for Student Academic Success (CSAS)! As you prep for fall, one thing you need to complete are the academic placement requirements. The types and numbers of assessments you need to complete are based on your major. Please note: You must complete all required placement assessments prior to attending your course registration appointment.

    • Writing placement survey: All students entering RWU for the 2025-26 academic year must complete the online Directed Self Placement survey in order to determine which WTNG class will best suit their needs. DSP is not a test, and does not require a writing sample. It will take approximately 5 minutes. Please contact John Madritch, jmadritch@rwu.edu, Program Coordinator for First-Year Writing, with any questions.
      • Writing survey login information: No special password or login information is necessary to complete the writing placement requirement; however, you will need to enter your first name, last name and student ID number in order to proceed. You can find your Student ID in Roger Central (View your user profile by clicking on your username on the top toolbar and selecting ‘User Profile’.)
Click here to take the self-placement survey.
    • Math: Not everyone is required to take the Math Placement Testing. Math Placement Testing is dependent upon the major you have chosen. Click here to find your major and math requirements. Please contact Jennifer Pearce, jpearce@rwu.edu, Math and Physics Department Chair, with any questions.
      • Math Placement Login Instructions: Click here for details on content of the exam and registration instructions.Click here to go to Math Assessment Online Portal.
**Students who receive extended time for assessments, sometimes as part of an individualized education program (IEP), will be given a 3-hour time limit for each part. Students do not need to submit
    • Modern Language: Modern language placement is required for all new students who have skills in a modern language and/or have taken courses in a modern language in high school. Students who are majoring in both the International Relations Major and the International Business Majors are also required to complete modern language placement. If you are interested in pursuing a foreign language while attending RWU, we encourage you to take modern language placement to determine your placement level in that language. Please contact Modern Language Department Chair, Professor Min Zhou at 401-254-5719 or mzhou@rwu.edu with any questions.
      • Modern Language Assessment Login Information: Foreign Language placement testing is available on Bridges. Please refer to this article for instructions on how to access the placement exam.

Please complete all required placement assessments prior to attending your course registration appointment; however, we strongly encourage you to complete the placement requirements as soon as possible.  If you have questions, please reach out to Angela Raymond, Coordinator of Placement & Academic Advisor, at araymond@rwu.edu or 401-254-3861.
